Marc Slorance

I am not a professional writer, nor would I usually describe myself as particularly creative. What I would say is that, as with my wife Frances, I have a great deal of difficulty concentrating on one thing or striving to have a straightforward and uneventful life.  I can safely say that our time together so far has been far from uneventful; family heart ache, stress, laughter, love and excitement.

 

I started work on my first children’s picture book during a difficult time, when as a family we were supporting my mum (Margaret) who was living with cancer. This creativity allowed for a degree of escapism and something to concentrate on (as well as my BSc in Mental Health Nursing, family and work) as we strived to complete the book so that Margaret could see the finished article.

 

Story telling played a large part in the early life of our son Rory, Fran and I would always read him a bed time story, whether that be from a book or a story that we made up at the time. Rory and Ross and the Rainy day is based upon one such story which concentrated on the power of the children’s imagination and how that transformed what could have been a very uneventful day.

 

Nothing really ever came of the book, my Mum saw the finished article, and then it sat on a shelf untouched and forgotten.  I feel that we all have such busy lives now that it can be difficult to spend quality time with our kids, so I wanted to give something for parents and young children to read together. This is what has spurred me (as well as the concentration bit) to create this web page and offer the book as a free download.

 

Rory is getting bigger and the thought of having Mum or Dad reading him a bed time story is the furthest thing from his mind.  The last thing he wants is to listen to my silly stories, so hopefully this will offer me an opportunity to share future stories and satisfy my want to try and be creative.
